When you are looking to motivate employees you can use the carrot or the stick. I prefer the carrot. The thing is if you are going to use the carrot there has to be at least perceived value. We started a rewards program using www.bluedial.com . We set a limit of $500 for a quarterly performance reward. With that for example an employee can get a movado watch that sells for over $800 retail. That is not perceived value that is real value. Since we implemented that program we have increased production by over 70% with less than a 2% increase in cost. That doesn’t even began to count the improved attitudes. Going to bluedial.com was certainly worth the time.
